On July 4, 2019, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake strikes in the California, followed by another 7.1-magnitude earthquake in 34 hours. The earthquake occurred in the north and northeast of the town of Ridgecrest, California located in Kern County and west of Searles Valley.
The quake struck at 8:19 p.m. Friday and was centered 11 miles from Ridgecrest, the same area of the desert where a 6.4-magnitude temblor hit just a day earlier. It left behind cracked and burning buildings, broken roads, obstructed railroad tracks and leaking water and gas lines. The shaking was felt as far away as Mexico and Las Vegas, according to the USGS.
